UCF-area lands Orlando’s first booze-serving Taco Bell Cantina

In the spirit of the weekend getting started, have you ever had a hankering for a craft beer to go with your Cheesy Gordita Crunch? Well, you’re in luck because a new millennial-focused, booze-serving Taco Bell Cantina will debut across the street from the University of Central Florida’s main entrance.

The fast-casual concept, a first for Central Florida and second statewide, will take up 2,846 square feet at the $100 million Plaza on University complex, a building that blends student housing units with ground-level shops and eateries on the northwest corner of University Boulevard and Alafaya Trail in east Orlando. JLL’s Brandon Delanois represented the landlord in the lease deal.

Taco Bell Cantina, which only has a handful of locations — including one near the University of Florida in Gainesville — features a more hip, urban-style decor than a typical drive-thru Taco Bell, like polished wood and exposed brick. It offers tapas-style menu items, USB ports, and serves beer, wine and sangria, as well as the option to get Taco Bell’s frozen drinks spiked with rum, tequila and vodka.

“Taco Bell Cantina is a great example of a brand evolving to cater to today’s millennial tastes and preferences,” said Delanois, JLL associate of retail brokerage, in a prepared statement.

Three new restaurants are coming to Disney Springs next year

Disney Springs is adding to its menu of Italian eateries.

Patina Restaurant Group, owners of Morimoto Asia, announced today that they will open Enzo’s Hideaway and Pizza Ponte, early next year. As we previously reported, the group is also opening the traditional Italian trattoria, Maria & Enzo’s in the same complex.

A statement released by the group describes Enzo’s Hideaway as a “Roman- aperitivo-inspired” speakeasy that pays homage to ‘s rum running history.

The prohibition theme extends to Maria and Enzo’s, connecting to the restaurant through the building’s rum-running tunnels. Expect foods like Bucatini alla Carbonara, a hollow spaghetti with creamy egg dish with pancetta sauce and Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe, square-cut spaghetti with pecorino and black pepper.

Pizza Ponte, on the other hand, is a “fast-casual concept” that will offer savory and sweet options from Sicilian-style pizza by the slice, Triangolo (stuffed pizza bread) and Bomboloni Italian doughnuts, to Sfoglia di Riso rice cream pastry and a classic Tiramisu.

The new also come with the group’s development of The Edison, a “Industrial Gothic” style bar and restaurant expected to open by the end of 2017.

HOAR SELECTED AS CONTRACTOR FOR NEXT PHASE OF LAKE NONA TOWN CENTER

The recently re-designed 3,000 square-foot restaurant seats 164 guests and playfully combines the adventure of flight with international flavors.

Food & Beverage

Led by Executive Chef Jeffery Powell, Hemisphere’s culinary team has designed a menu that infuses robust international flavors and seasonal local ingredients. Dinner highlights include Chef Powell’s signature pork belly with slow pickled blueberries, candied jalapeños and savory sunchoke purée.

Additionally, guests will enjoy a seasonal Chef’s Recommended Flight, a menu of signature dishes that will change with every new season. Avocado toast, kalbi short rib sliders, grilled fennel and apple and pork tamales are available now as part of the featured Chef’s Recommended Flight on the restaurant’s new dinner menu.

“We designed the Hemisphere menu with dishes that are designed for sharing among friends and brought out to the table on a flow throughout the meal,” said Executive Chef Powell. “This way, diners can experience more dishes, rather than sticking to an individual starter and main course.”

The Hemisphere beverage menu complements the world kitchen concept with a carefully curated collection of wines and cocktails from each hemisphere, like the Very Long Layover featuring Lillet rosé, mineral water, lemon juice, grapefruit bitters, and lavender simple syrup. Following a local artist search, Damon Dewitt was hand-selected to craft the signature entryway art installation at the re-designed Hemisphere restaurant. Dewitt’s work, Paper Planes, is physically and metaphorically light and reflective evoking a nostalgic flight experience and embracing the sense of wonder and travel from the early years of commercial aviation. The art installation is showcased in the new entry of Hemisphere and follows the curvature of the signature spiral staircase to the Upper Deck. The handcrafted “paper” airplanes float on 15 rows of vertical, stainless steel wiring for a sleek yet simple display.

Orlando begins entertainment complex

The Magic’s planned $200 million project across from the Amway Center finally is showing signs of movement.

The Magic have begun to prepare the property by beginning demolition of the parking garage just north of the team’s arena, said Joel Glass, spokesman for the team. There’s no timeline yet for when construction will start.

“As you know, this project represents a $200 million-plus investment by the Magic and its partners that will create jobs and provide dining, hotel and entertainment options, and continue the revitalization of downtown Orlando and the Parramore neighborhood,” he said, noting the complex is still in the design phase.

Last December, Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins said team would begin work on the facility sometime this summer.

The proposed 7.82-acre complex, to be built on west Church Street, is designed to have a 250-room hotel with convention/meeting space, plus 64,000 square feet of retail space, 100,000 square feet of office space, 250 residential units and a parking garage. Those plans could change as the project gets closer to development.

The team has been quite busy over the past couple of weeks during the NBA offseason acquiring and trading players. The team’s planned new entertainment complex would provide the area with new economic impact via the tourists and locals it could draw. Along with the addition to our soccer team this development will put Orlando in the spotlight for bigger and better venues in the future.
